It was truly ….”BOOM” at the Pole Vault runway today at the 15th Marine Corps Indoor Classic at the New Balance Track & Field Center on 168th Street, New York City!!!!
The Iona Prep,NY Pole Vault “BOOM” Club…coached by Jerry Cahill treated the sold out crowd to exciting vaulting and great sportsmanship at mid day Varsity section od champions… Iona Prep…senior Matt Fay made his statement with 2 new PR’s at 15′ 6″ and 15′ 9″ for the Gold Medal. His near 16′ 0″ jump moves him up the MILLROSE GAMES HS BOYS POLE VAULT LIST for the February 14, 2015 TV Meet!!!! The TOP 8 vaulters in our reach will be invited based on performance thru Feb. 1. “Boom” team mate Ryan Herrera Murphy also looked great all day and his 15′ 6″ PR also places him on the list. Luke Ammirati(Farrell) sailed 13′ 6″ again … Flying Circus junior Matt deLorenzo blasted over 13′ 6″… Ormando Watson was solid on new poles and Brian Sagendorf(Union Catholic) 12′ 0″ .
In the evening Girls Championship Pole Vault… Connecticut State Champ sailed huge over 11′ 6″ for gold and used her BIGGEST POLES EVER at 12′ 0″ close bars.. She then took the Marine Corp “Chin-Up” contest with her 20 Straight chins record!!! Sabrina Anderson(HC) coming off her 11′ 6″ win on Saturday..placed 2nd at 11’0″ followed by junior Kalli Many(BH) at 11′ 0″…Erin Leahey(Warwick) 10′ 6″ and Andrea Dolan(Wallkill) at 9′ 0″ !!!
Circus Performers win both FROSH/SOPH VAULTS!!! The next generation is creeping up… with James Ammirati(Farrell,NY) winning the gold Frosh / Soph meet at 9′ 6″ and Soph Colleen Leahey(JS Burke,NY) winning the Girls Frosh / Soph Vault at 8′ 6″!!!!
