It was all about ..”Educational Based Athletics” on Monday at the Connecticut State Open Track & Field Championships at the world class level 12 facility at New Britain High School. This facility hosted the USA vs Great Britain Jr. Dual meet 25 years ago and it’s been refurbished again to ..Stateof the Art!!!! There was unbelievable sportsmanship and high performances..as the Top 6 in each event advance to the 72nd New England Championships next Saturday at Norwell High School,MA.

Circus Boys Milan Spisek of Joel Barlow HS (Coach Jeff Dumas) won the friendly Boys Vault from best friend…Marc DeLuca(Westhill HS)(Coach Neal Perry)…as both flew personal bests of 15′ 6″ and close bars at 16’0″. Chris Ruff’s State Meet Record of 16′ 0″ remains intact. The sportsmanship displayed by both boys was impressive all day and gives us hope. Placing 9th was junior Nick Petruzzelli(Notre DameHS) made 13′ 0″ Henry Vossler(DarienHS) 12′ 6′ and Josh Appel(Westhill) 12′ 6″ for Coach Perry.

Circus Girls helped each other thru out the competition…as Greenwich HS junior Lia Zavattaro placed second overall at 11′ 6″ for the Cardinals… Weston HS senior Danielle Cass placed 3rd for Coach Medve at 11′ 0″..Lauren Russo(NewtownHS) placed 5th at 11′ 0″ Megan Murphy(Greenwich HS) was the states’ TOP FRESHMAN at 10′ 0″ Sophia Rico(Weston) 9′ 6′ and Elise Russell(Weston HS) 9′ 0″
