    It’s called…”Finding Joy thru Sport” ….. There was plenty of joy to go around at the “BIG THREE CHAMPIONSHIPS” this weekend at The New York State Meet…The New Jersey State Meet and the 72nd New England Track & Field Championships !
    Here at Flying Circus …. it has never been about winning the medal. It has been more about …”Belonging”… than anything else. After-all-is-said-and-done … the dust from the meet has landed…and the clean up crew has finished taking care of the site…the memories of competing well… enjoying your own and your team mates successes…and representing your High School team to the fullest competitive spirit and sportsmanship … then… and only then… can you feel the ..’joy-of-sport’…

    The Roller Coaster starts it’s climb…Friday.. at the New York State Championships , at tradition rich Union Endicott High
    School Track and football stadium .. The fast Recktan runways helped battle the gusting cross wind for the Boys and Girls fiberglass getogether. Circus strongman…Dagi Tadesse of New Paltz flew to his Division II State Title with his 15′ 0″ win.. Junior Josiah Spain(O’Neill) followed with his state medal in 4th place at 13′ 3″ and George Zakharov(Croton) finished his HS career at 13′ 3″. In the Division I Championships… Warwick Valley’s finest vaulter this year was ready ..as he placed 5th with a 14′ 6″ leap to make your eyes water!!! Vinnie DePaolo(MW) sailed 13′ 3″..as did Tappan Zee’s Daeseob Lim at 13′ 3″.
    In the afternoon Girls meet…The Division I crown went to NY State Gymnastic star..Amanda McNelis of Commack High School with her 12′ 3″ sail for Coach Jim hendersen!!! Alana Carroll(Averill Park) took home the silver medal at 12′ 0″ and placing 3rd was the Top Soph in the meet…Kaeli Thompson(Warwick Valley) at 11′ 9″ for the Track Wave’s Coach Mike Potter. Kristin Lubeski(MW) 10′ 0″ Colleen Leahey(JSB) 10′ 0″ Lauen Berry(Emma) 9′ 0″ Kelley Townley(Liverpool) 9′ 0′ .

    Saturday June 10… The sun comes up strong at Norwell High School,MA for the loaded 72nd New England Championships. Taking the Girls pole vault crown and gold medal…was Greenwich,CT junior scholar..Lia Zavattaro with her 11′ 9″ sail…bouncing high up from her silver performance last week. Placing third was Weston,CT senior Danielle Cass at 11′ 3″ ..as she heads to Nationals this week and placing forth was Lauren Russo of Newtown,CT at 11′ 3″ for the Bucknell University bound athlete. Haley Lightbody(North Reading,MA placed 8th at 9′ 9″. The Boys Division was sensational.. as part time Circus Vaulter..Erick Duffy of North Andover flew 16′ 4.75″ for a new meet record and was close at the next bar. Erick also placed second in 110 Hurdles in 14.24. He is seeded 4th at NB Nationals next week. Marc DeLuca(Weston,CT placed 3rd at 15′ 3″ for Neal Perry and Milan Spisek(Joel barlow,CT) placed 6th at 14′ 3″!!!

    The New Jersey Meet of Champions is one of the strongest State Meets in the USA every year…. and this year was no exception at North Burlington Regional High School state of art facility. The competition was tight all day in both the Boys and Girls runways….but the sportsmanship and togetherness of the vaulters was the best gift of the day for each spectator..parent and coach. . The Girls meet was the “greatest and deepest Ever” as 7 girls flew 12’0… 4 girls equalled he All Time Meet record and the Top 4 Girls supported each other right to the end… Taking the crown was Governor Livingston’s Leah Saifi with her comeback 12′ 6′ first attempt win.. Michelle Rubinetti of Northern Valley-Demarest made Coach Mike Ives proud again with her 12′ 6″ silver performance.. Jessica Ippolito(Fair Lawn) was also sensational in setting her school record to 12′ 6″ for 3rd place and Melissa “Sunshine” Purcell of Pascack Valley set her new school record of 12′ 6′ for the always smiling Coach Tim Wilson. Caroline McGann of Holy Angels was super over 11′ 6″ for 8th place Lauren Saifi(GL) 10′ 6′ Grace Gardella(Ramsey) 10′ 6′ Sydney Woods(NV-Demarest) 10′ 6′ Nicole Lester(Ridgewood) 10′ 6′ Jackie Helm(Paramus) 10′ 6′ Erin Yuder(NV-Demarest) competed tough for the Emory University bound star and Arianna Cavalli(Old Tappan ) will be back next year!!!
    The Boys were making noise also on the adjacent runway..with Jason Mezhibovsky of Northern Valley-Demarest wins his first state title at 14′ 6″ on misses for Coach Mike Ives. Junior Seth Kricheff of Northern Valley-Old Tappan was super over 14′ 6″ also but had 1 more miss in the competition,placing 4th overall. Brian Rubenstein(Governor Livingston) had his best day and nearly stole-the-bacon..with a big 14′ 6″ clear for 5th place. Dave Bausmith(Hunterdon Central..just a junior 14′ 0″ Liam Landau of Pascach Hills was the states TOP SOPH at 13′ 6″ for 11th place. Trevor Hazell(Vernon) 13′ 6′ Cam Horn(Montville) 13′ 6″ Tyler Hrbek(Old Tappan) 13′ 6′ Ryan Vimba(Ridgewood) 13′ 6″ Kevin Nam (Pope John) 12′ 6′
