  June 12 ……… It was a grand site on Friday at The University of Albany’s new Track and Field Facility..as the finest High School athletes gathered for the New York State Track and Field Championships to perform athletics …friendships and sportsmanship for the sold out crowd of track & field enthusiasts. The efforts and performances were unbelievable again this year in all events in this rain delayed opportunity.    
    The Boys and Girls competed on two separate pits and the competition was overlapping and exciting to the very last jump. At the South end of the infield…Bethlehem,NY junior TEDI DiMARIA was enjoying her finest pole vault day with a new school and Section 2 All Time record of 12′ 3″ for the Gold State Medal. This junior began pole vault just last summer and also competes for Coach Gansle in the Triple jump and High Jump this spring. She had a very close bar art 12′ 6″ on her UCS Spirit 13′ 7 x 155!!!!! She will compete on Saturday at Nations in Greensboro. Also producing a great day on fiberglass was Monre-Woodbury team mates…Catherine Walker and Samantha Beyar… Catherine jumped 12′ 3″ with air-to-spare for the Federation silver medal and Samantha Beyar was super all day placing 6th at 11’6″ for the Clemson bound senior. Kari Stromhaug(Vestel) placed third at 11′ 9″ for Coach Jum Cerra and heads to MIT next fall for her studies and vaulting. Great news came from the New Paltz Vault Team..as junior Samantha Kaplan(New Paltz) won her State Pole Vault Title in Division II for Coach Ann Gregory at 11′ 0″… Junior Sophia Alter(Rondout Valley) soared over 10′ 0″ for the ganders in blue. Both girls return for a big senior year next fall. Bronxville,NY senior Vivian Morz finished her school record season at 10′ 0″ for Coach Jim Mitchell.

   The Boys competition was close and exciting at the North end infield…. with Derek DiBona(Warwick Valley) staying with his Big Poles all day(15′ 7″ x 190 UCS) and placed silver in a jump off in the Division I Championships for Coach Mike Potter. Team mate Matt Greenlaw(Warwick Valley) received the Most Improved Award this year at Warwick Valley with his 14′ 0″ vault…moving his PR up 4 FEET from last year!!!!. Dlyan Scribani(New Paltz-Soph) jumped won his state medal in fifth place in Division II at 13′ 6″ and Martin Desmery(New Paltz) finished up a super career at 12′ 0″ this spring. Congratulations to Federation winner Ryan Herra-Murphy(Iona Prep) for his gold medal at 16′ 6″ for Coach Jerry Cahill.
        Always remember……It’s not how you place…it’s how you compete.
