CONGRATULATIONS to Newtown High School senior Pole Vault Champion JENNA CALANDRO for taking home the GOLD MEDAL at yesterday’s Connecticut State Open at Hillhouse Arena in New Haven. Jenna is one of the Flying Circus ‘s MOST IMPROVED Success stories. Less than 14 months ago… Jenna came to Warwick with a 9′ 3″ personal best in the pole vault… and turned up the motivation and dedication with year round training in vault…to capture the State Title at 12′ 0″ yesterday…to go with her 12′ 4″ personal best. Jenna has signed her scholarship to Bucknell University for her academic and athletics future and is coached by Flying Circus mentor Hugh Cauthers…. Jenna still has 3 Indoor meets to fly…Eastern States(Feb. 24) NB Nationals(March 16) and FLYING CIRCUS VAULT CHAMPIONSHIPS on March 22 in Warwick !!!
Also soaring BIG at STATE was Darien High School’s Maddie Schneider ..who placed Silver at 11′ 6″ first attempt and close bar at 12′ 0″. This junior has a seasonal best of 12′ 1″ and her 4×200 Relay Won the State Title yesterday at 1:45.93!!! Jane Wall(Weston) placed 3rd for Coach Medve at 10′ 6″ followed by Rachel Moroknek(Ridgefield) at 10′ 0″ and Jessica Thornberry(Darien) at 10′ 0″…Chloe Brown(Gladsberry) 9′ 6″ and Hannah Campos(Weston) finished up the Flying Circus fireworks!!!
In the Boys State Open Finals.. Congratulations to Chris Rough(Westhill)..taking silver medal with a 14′ 6″ clear for Coach Neal Perry. Nick DiBarthalomeo(Weston) 12′ 0″..Will Crum(Weston) 11’6″ and Tom Chessman(Greenwich) all came thru again.

Toms River,NJ… In the State Meet Group 4… North Hunterdon senior… Trevor Knowles was flying again…. as the senior won his Vault Title at 14′ 6″ and near missed bar 15′ 1″ for the Green and Gold. Trevor will be at Eastern States on Monday Night at the ARMORY!!!

Section1 North Champs… Rye High School ,NY senior Matea Friedel set a school indoor record in winning her title at 9′ 7″…as Armory Circus Coach Ben Simonet guided her the last few weeks to the Championship. Vernon,NJ junior Cara Kelly flew 11′ 1″ yesterday to officially qualify for the NB Nationals Emerging Elite Championships on March 14. Using her 13′ 1 x 145 she near missed at 11′ 5″ on all three vaults. Kari Murnane(Lenape Valley,NJ) coming off her successful swimming season won the Armory Youth Meet… as did Ike Osbun(MKA,NJ) in the winners circle in the Boys Division!!!

Congrats to Dana Fineman at Morivian College,PA!!!! Dana jumped a personal best of 11′ 3.75 ” this past weekend in the Armory for Coach Mike Leyark and now qualifies for the post season fun!!!

“THE BLAST @ MILLROSE”…… History was made in the first ever Girls Pole Vault Invitation at Saturday’s 107th MILLROSE INDOOR GAMES at the Armory. Honoring the” High Flying Girls of Pole Vault” … was the vision of Armory Executive Director…Dr. Norbert “Mr. Track & Field” Sander. This gathering of Pole Vault Stars went NATIONAL…as the 10 girls represented 8 different states….and proven CHAMPIONS ALL in their vault careers. The scene was electric and emotional in both the the warm up and competition. and the results were sensational. The Girls High School Pole Vault Event has gone thru the roof!!! Many thanks to all ten girls for a GREAT SHOW !!! Here are the full results:
