New Balance Indoor Nationals…. CONGRATULATIONS to all 15 Flying Circus athletes who competed this past weekend in the Armory at The Indoor National HS Championships. The thrill and honor of competing in a National Championship in any sport will last a lifetime. Very few athletes ever get a chance to fell this level of competition and our Flying Circus pole vaulters were sensational all three days. It was not about making a record or a personal best…this day was about belonging…belonging to the highest level of Track and Field in the USA!!!! Each athlete …parent and coach will rise up to a brand new level of performance and new levels of spirit of sportsmanship this spring ….. the “Spark” has been set ! DREAM BIG!
Friday…The Emerging Elite section of future athletes was fantastic!!! Sophomore Alana Carroll (Averill Park,NY)..coached by Hugh Cauthers set a New York State Sophomore Record with her 12′ 4.75″ leap of faith for her gold medal and All-American crown. Using her 12′ 7″ grip and UCS Spirit 150 series..she flew to new school records as well. Amanda McNelisof Commack,NY..coached by Jim Hendersen at the Warehouse Vault sailed big over 11′ 7″ for 8th place overall…NJ State Indoor Champ Leah Saifi(Governor Livingston) also sailed 11′ 7″ …Junior Jessica Ippolito(FairLawn,NJ) set another school record of 11′ 7″ for the Cutters..Kalli Manly(Burnt Hills,NY) made 10’7″ along with Soph Kristen Lubeskie(Monroe,NY) and Caitlin Reverand(NV-Demarest,NJ). In the afternoon Boys Emerging Elite section..it was all Marc DeLuca of Westhill,CT..coached by Neil Perry. This junior had a big day in placing 6th for his All American honors at 14′ 3.5″ PR!!! Liam Ackerman(St.Anthony,NY)..also just a junior looked strong day to end is super indoor season.
Saturday….The Boys Championship of America Pole Vault was loaded and Hatboro Horsham,PA junior Nick Marino was sensational again with his 14′ 9.5″ sail to conclude a deep and productive Indoor season for the humble and dedicated vault star. On to Penn Relays!!!!!
Sunday…. The Girls Championship of America Pole Vault was another deep and closely contested event. Bethlehem Central,NY senior gymnastic star..Tedi DeMaria was ready for the final Indoor Meet of the Year. Using her 13′ 7 x 165 UCS Spirits to the max..she flew to an All – American 4th place finish for Coach Ashley Gansel. Coming off small setbacks at Eastern States and State Indoor..Tedi moved back to her 7 Step Approach and was ‘ Oh-So-Close’ at 13′ 1″ on her third attempt. She never gave up hope this past month…as she set a new school and Section 2 All time Record and becomes #5 on All Time Flying Circus Indoor Chart!!! Perhaps the best and most inspiring happening on Sunday belonged to Flying Circus team mates and Champions…Julia Valenti(North Reading,MASS) and Michelle Rubinetti(Northern Valley-Demarest,NJ)…both State and Eastern State Pole Vault Champions..wwho had a rough day…but stayed on the infield all day in support of their team mate..Tedi deMaria… yelling and screaming and encouraging . This is the essence of true and pure sportsmanship that athletic participation aspires too achieve. Congratulations to all for a super indoor season. Bring on outdoor!!!!
Hershey National Age-Group Championships..@ Ocean Breeze…. More great vaulting came out of Ocean Breeze on Friday and Saturday.. as Charles Crispi(Farrell,NY) sailed to his National title with his 14′ 1.5″ for Coach Jerry Cahill …Placing third at Nationals was Sophomore Dane Sorensen(Warwick Valley,NY ) at 12′ 1.5″ for Coach Potter/Coach Acaki… and soaring to her Silver second place medal in the girls division was Greenwich,CT super-soph Lia Zavattaro at 10′ 0″ ..coached by Stephanie Duffy!!!!
NCAA Division I…… Congratulations to our own Megan Clark(Duke University) for another sensational pole vault meet at NCAA Champions in Birmingham,Alabama.. She flew to 14′ 9″ for her runner Up pole vault and another All American honors.
NCAA Division II…. Congratulations to a young man who put us on the National Map 5 years ago… that’s right… Senior Jordan “Jeddy” Yamoah of Texas A&M-Kingsville soared to his 4th NATIONAL PV TITLE with his 17′ 9″ vault for the Javelina’s of Coach Ryan Dall … and close bars at 18′ 1″!!!!
