FLYING CIRCUS Pole Vaulters carried their family…friends…team -mates and ‘vault – spirit’ to the New Balance Nationals this past weekend in Greensboro,NC and enjoyed the best competition of the year and huge performances. CONGRATULATIONS to all vaulters for a truly SUPER OUTDOOR SEASON -on-FIBERGLASS!!!!
….. Now…time for a short rest… then summer camps…summer technique sessions…and SEASIDE HEIGHTS BEACH VAULT….August 1-3!!!!!
PERFORMANCES….. Emerging Elite Girls.. Senior Jenna Calandro(Newtown,CT) put on a show on Friday with her 4th place vault of 11′ 11.75″…and then her pole broke and put a fault to her big day…..the Bucknell University bound Calandro finished a sensational High School Vault career!!!
Also jumping uper was Kara Snyder(Colonie,NY) with her 11′ 5.75 air-strike and very strong jumps at 11′ 11..Kara finishes a stellar career and is ready for her Villanova Track Family. Monroe-Woodbury,NY team mates Catherine Walker and Samantha Beyar were a powerful duo this spring and both cleared 11′ 5.75″ and return for the Crusaders next year…. Junior Katlyn Rymarzow(Pope John,NJ) placed All-American in her 5th place in the Championship Shuttle Hurdles with her 15′ 2 split and then flew huge over 11’0″ on her brand new poles….Kalli Manly(Burnt Hills,NY) had a nice bounce back from the state meet and moves to her longer poles this summer!!!!
Emerging Elite Boys…..Pole Vault justice came to “never-give-up” Patrick Lynch of Cranford,NJ!!!! Battling back from illness that kept him out of State Finals…this Notre Dame bound super star taught us about…”Staying-the-course” in athletics and life…with his BIG 14′ 8.5″ leap of faith and near bar at 15′ 2.5″!!! Our underclassmen…juniors Sam Siegel(NV-Demerast) and Chris Rough(Westhill,CT) competed hard and gained National experience this weekend!!! Zach Lieberman flew 14′ 2″ easily.
Girls Championship Pole Vault….Maddie Schneider(Darien,CT)…just a junior on that BLUE WAVE STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TEAM of Steve Norris’s…had her best meet with her 11th place at Nationals and a Big Air miss at a seasonal best of 12′ 3.75 on her biggest grip and poles of the year. Maddie will be hitting 3 summer camps(Flying Circus…William& Mary….and Duke Camps) for this scholar athlete before she finishes at Seaside Heights Beach Vault….Junior Samantha Beyar(MW) jumped 12′ 2.5″ this year at FAST TIMES and is ready for her West Coast Pole Vault Camp in July…placed 13th in Nation at 11′ 5.75″ for Purple Pride!! Kari Stromhaug(Vestal,NY) soared 11′ 5.5″ on her longer poles and heads to Norway this summer for her federation championships and hospital work in South Africa!!!!
Boys Championship Pole Vault…… Todd Uckermark(Warwick Valley,NY) finished a story book pole vault career that was one of the most consistent ever for our event… winning Indoor and Outdoor Public Vault titles… and soaring 16′ 9″(indoor) and 16′ 3″(outdoor) school and sectional records and then jumping over 16 feet in 10 separate meets is unmatched by any NY State vaulter…ever!! Todd heads to High Point University next fall to study communications!!! Luke Annichiarico(Old Tappan.NJ) was unbelievable this year at 15′ 6″ and place 10th and heads to Wake Forset University next fall… Derek DiBona(Warwick Valley,NY) will return for his senior season with a personal best of 16′ 1″ this year for Purple Wave State Champions … and Travis Fountain(MW,NY) blasted his 15′ 7″ school record and heads to Binghamton University Vault Machine…headed by Coach Mike Thompson!!!! Our “16 Foot Superman “NJ State Champ Andy Ghizzone(Union Catholic) had and MVP weekend in 5 events at Nationals… with All American coming in 3 relays…14.2 hurdle split along with his 14′ 8.5″ vault into wind on Sunday. Andy will be attending Colorado University next fall on scholarship for this multi event star… 4: 20 mile…1:54.5/800m….14.2 Hurdles… 22.2/200m…. 48.5/400m…. 54.6/400 hurdles…. 16 foot pole vault !!!!! Watch out BIG 12 CONFERENCE!!!
Decathlon Pole Vault…..Pope John,NJ senior Tim Schanstra became an ALL AMERICAN agin this year at NATIONALS… This well rounded athlete…heading to PENN UNIVERSITY next fall… flew to 13′ 3.5″ personal best vault for Coach Corcoran….Dylan Altland hit 14′ 7.5″ in Decca and heads to Rutgers…Will Ackerman(HVFC) vaulted 11′ 3.5″ !!!
SIMONET SOARS @ Icahn Stadium ….. Flying Circus Pole Vault Coach Ben Simonet found the right pole this week and took over the Northeast Masters lead with his 14′ 3.25 gold medal jump at NY Open/Masters meet at Icahn….. Jame s Schuler(HVFC) won his division at 13′ 7″… Bill Crouse won the 50-54 Division at 10′ 4″ and Carlton Huff(ShoreAC) won the 60-64 Division at 10′ 4″ !!!
Other Great Performances were turned in by HV Flying Circus stars on the track…as sophomore Julia Valenti(North Reading,MASS) multi-event/pole vaulter sizzled to her 100m hurdle seasonal best at 15.8…for the 2 time state pole vaulter Group champion at 11′ 0″this spring…. and congratulations to HVFC pole vaulter Dominque Beltrez(Cortland Manor,NY)…competing in the Heptathlon Championship..this powerful junior… leaped 17′ 10.5″ in her Long Jump and then raced to 14′ 70 in her 100m Hurdles for personal bests!!!!! She returns to pole vault next fall @ Circus!!!

Congratulations to senior Rachel Moroknek(Ridgefield,CT) for placing 4th with a school record 11′ 3″ vault…Jane Wall(Weston,CT) 10′ 9″ Laurel Bailey(Shelton) 10′ 9″ PR Chloe Brown(Gladsburry) 9′ 9″ Ali Moroaveck(Masck,CT) 9′ 9” Jess Thornbury(Darien,CY) 9’9″…. CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL VAULTERS!!!
