NEW JERSEY STATE MEET of CHAMPIONS

There was a buzz of excitement and wonder at yesterdays South Plainsfiled High School Boys Pole Pit…at the New Jersey Meet of Champions State Finals…as Union Catholic ‘s versatile Decathlon star Andrew Ghizzone , set a huge personal best in winning the gold medal in the pole vault with his first try clearance of 16′ 0″: on his Flying Circus 15′ x 170 UCS SPIRIT ROCKET!!!!
After racing to a 54.73 400m Hurdles earlier in the afternoon….Andy, bound for University of Colorodo next fall, took 17 vaults in the competition…with 3 very near jumps at Will Nesbitt’s meet record of 16′ 4″ . It was the first meet of the year on his 15′ x 170 pole. Andrew will be in Greensboro Nationals in vault. Also hitting big performances was Luke Annichiarico(old Tappan) 15′ 0″ for silver medal….Ike Osbun(MKA) 14′ 0″ Sam Siegel(Demerast) 13′ 6″ Spencer Llerandi(Ridgewood) 13′ 0: Tim Schanstra(Pope John) 13′ 0″ !!!

Katlyn Rymarzow(Pope John) placed 5th in the Girls meet at 11′ 0″…followed by Sabrina Anderson(Hunterdon Central) 10′ 6″ Lauren Bilali(Old Tappan) 10′ 0″ Kari Murnane(Lenape Valley) 10′ 0″ Cara Kelly(Vernon) 10′ 0″ . CONGRATULATIONS ALL!!!!

State Champions were also crowned on Monday in Connecticut…with Jenna Calandro(Newtown,CT) winning the Class M State title at 12′ 1″ and Maddie Schneider(Darien,CT) winning the Class L State Title at 11′ 8″(Meet Record). Up in North Reading,MASS..Sophomore Julia Valenti won her Class S State Vault Title at 10′ 9″ for Coach Eric Hastings!!!!

Chris Rough(Westhill,CT) won the State Vault Title in Class M at 14’ 6″ for then speedy junior ..coached by Neal Perry!!!!
