Connecticut State Open Finals

The 25 mile per hour cross winds today at the Connecticut State Open Track & Field Championships could not hold back the FLYING CIRCUS VAULT CREW !!! Senior Chris Rough of Westhill High School…coached by Neal Perry for the last 4 years was sensational with a personal best 16′ 0″ leap for the Gold Medal. Coming off the 6th place All American Indoor finish at NB Nationals at 15′ 10″..this UCONN bound athlete is ready for the Greensboro Nationals. Placing second was Joe Fogarasi(Windham) at 15′ 6″..as he takes his vault success to the University of South Florida next fall with Coach Marsh. Placing third was Ian Bergere of Daniel Hand High School at 15′ 6″PR and will join Rough…Derek DiBona(Warwick) at the University of Connecticut next fall for a powerful Freshman class of Huskies. Placing 4th was Leland Roberts(Danbury) at 14′ 6″ Tom Chessman(Greenwich) 13′ 0″ Christian Partenio(Danbury) 13′ 0″ for Coach Murphy !!!

The next runway over..the Girls Vault was shaping up…as Darien senior Maddie Schneider took home another State Pole Vault Championship. It’s hard to believe in this complex event..but Maddie won her 10th State CLass(Large School) and Open Vault Championship…finishing an unprecedented career in this event. The West Point bound honor student will vault with Coach Jon Hill’s ..”CADET FLYER”S” next fall in her leadership program. Placing second was Shelton High School senior..Laurel Bailey at 10′ 6 in heavy wind and will also be vaulting at UCONN next fall. Placing 5th was junior Hanna Campos(Weston) at 10’0″ and Sophomore Lauren Russo(Newtown) at 10′ 0″. They will finish next week in Sacco .Maine at New England Championships… Sophomore Danielle Cass(Weston) also vaulted well after her brilliant season for Coach Meadve !!!
