June 7-NY STATE MEET ~~~~ It was a Gold Medal Sweep in the Girls and Boys Pole Vault on Friday at the Middletown High School facility under clear skies and warm breezes for the HV Flyin’ Circus Vault Team of 16 athletes. It’s hard to explain the true joy of taking part in the ultimate High School competition…. THE STATE FINALS. Our 16 athletes represented themselves..their schools and their families with unbelievable class and sportsmanship. This is the true reward of participating in athletics. CONGRATULATIONS to ALL FLYING CIRCUS athletes this year!!!!! We are most proud of you.
The Vault Fireworks began at 10AM …with the Boys State Final…featuring 10 Circus Flyers in the two division final…. Ravena,NY junior…SHANE RACEY captured his first State Federation crown with a personal best 16′ 0″ leap on his 15′ 7 Spirits for the up set win… This humble Penn Relays Champion then had 2 close bars at 5 Meters(16’4.75″) and takes his show to NB Nationals next week. Jordan Yamoah’s State Record (16′ 8.5″) is fast approaching Racey!!! Also taking a silver medal was Soph , Louis Martinez of Wallkill,NY at 14′ 6″… East Meadow,NY Junior,,,Brandan Love placed 3rd at 14′ 6″ and Washingtonville Junior..Nick Mirecki flew 14′ 0″ for 7th place in Division I. Nick Villanueva of Monroe-Woodbury (Junior) flew 14′ 0″ easily ..as did senior Tommy Qualter of Clarkstown South..14′ 0″ Chris Filatov of Nanuet hit 13′ 6″ Sam Haaland(Onteora) 12′ 6″ and Alex Robin (Shaker) 11′ 6″.
The Girls took over the pole vault runway at 4:45pm to start their journey of flight. Warwick Valley,NY ..senior…KAELI THOMPSON was on a focused mission and capyured her first STATE VAULT TITLKE with a BIG FLY OVER at 13′ 0″ for the gold. She then took 3 great bars at Mary Saxer’s Meet Record at 13′ 6″ on just her 13′ 7″ ESSX poles. Kaeli heads to NBNationals next Saturday. Placing 6th in Division II was one of our most improved vaulters this year at Flying Circus. Sophomore Jules Gravier of Bronxville,NY .. medaled at 10′ 0″ for retiring Coach Jim Mitchell. First year vaulter..Ellie Lemler of James O’Neill,NY flew 9′ 0″ for 7th place in Small school competition. Now— BRING on those SUMMER TUESDAY NIGHT MEETS !!!!!!
New Jersey Meet of Champions,North Burlington,NJ
Saturday June 8 ~~~~~ Four athletes scored Medals in the very competitive NJ Meet of Champions in North Burlington … Leading the Girls was Old Tappan junior star..Marisa DiGia…coached by Jeff Clark. Marisa placed 3rd overall with her 11′ 6 clear and heads to camps this summer. Coming thru BIG in her senior final meet…was Jamie Rossig of Pascack Hills. ..Coached by Ross Koelher. Jamie sailed 10′ 6′ for 6th place medal…. Hope Handlin (Union Catholic)..our speedy senior also flew 1-. 6″ and heads to Sacred Heart University next fall with Coach Tim Beach. Mue Carroll (Matawan) and Randi Conroy(No.Highlands) were solid all day.
The Boys were also strong… with Pascack Hills Cowboy…Senior..Liam Landau flying 15′ 0′ and heads to Greensboro next week. Conor Reilly of Union Catholic placed 5th at 15′ 0″ and the comback of Adam Stavash(Hasbrouck Heights) placed 10th at 14′ 0″. Shaun Herlihy of Old Tappan also sailed 13′ 6″ for Coach Clark Vault Crew!!!
