It’s called….”VAULT WEEK”…. at the Hudson Valley Flying Circus in Warwick Valley,New York. The week is dedicated to celebrating the ” spirit and the joys’ of the pole vault. It begins with 4 days of Circus Pole Vault Camps and concludes with the new friendships at the BBQ Barnyard Meet for all families. 95 Campers came in from 9 different states from Monday thru Friday and the BBQ entry was 91 athletes of all ages…all spirits and all abilities. The display of ‘Flying Humans’ was breathtaking!!!!!

BBQ BARNYARD MEET…..Saturday July 14…… The morning Girls/Women’s meet was packed on two runways…Taking the High School honors was Vaultworx’s/PA sophomore star..Sydney Horn at 12′ 1″ into wind for Coach Mat Concannon. Sydney had close bars at a PR 12′ 7″. Placing silver was Megan Biscoglio of Southington,CT..also at 12′ 1″ and super close at 12′ 7 bar for this UCONN recruit New England Champion. Taking the honors on Pit #1 was Megan Murphy,VA…Caroline Fatta,NY and Julia Wasmund,PA …all at 9′ 7″. Open Women’s Champion was Nikki Carroll of Tampa,Florida at 12′ 1″ for Coach Don Marsh. !!!!!
The Boys/Men’s Open/Men’s Masters took over the runways and pits at high noon and the music volume was cranked up a few levels. The 92 degree temperatures and light tail wind encouraged large poles and the “Flying Humans” continued to try to win the “Woo Contest” thru out the warm up and the serving of the awesome BBQ Chicken and JOR TEA chilled drinks!!!! The meet produced 33 Personal Bests …with 7 Pole Vault Clubs participatinoing together in what is called…”PURE SPORT”. ….. Cheering for each other all day was… ‘contagious humankind’…… and that was the goal of the Flying Circus BBQ!!!!
Taking the High School Gold Medal was senior Payton Morris of Vaultworx Pole Vault Club in Camp Hill,PA. Payton Morris won everything this year…Indoor and Outdoor PA State PV Titles…Millrose Games Jr.Vault… Penn Relays…and yes…now the Circus BBQ Meet!!! He sailed 16′ 1″ easily from just his six step for Coach Concannon and Coach Mark Morris and took great bars at 16′ 7″!!! He heads to UPENN next fall to continue his academics and athletics. Taking the Open.. Gold Vault Crown was Appex Pole Vault Club,NJ… Peter Roach..sailing clean over 16′ 7″ for the former Cornell University champion..now coached by Bronko Meric. The Masters Division was stacked with former vault legends and provides the inspiration and motivation for all our young athletes competing… Will Nesbitt of Garrison,NY/Flying Circus… came up big with his 13′ 1″ Masters Age 56 Personal Best and taking over #1 spot on this years WORLD LIST for his age group!!!!!! He grabbed his heaviest pole for his record fly!!! Taking the honors on Pit #1…was Tunkhannock,PA ..sophomore…DaltonYuest(Flying Circus)… at 12’ 7″ with room to spare!!!!
