To watch young kids compete is a real treat.
……..and there were so many treats last night at the 83rd EASTERN STATES CHAMPIONSHIPS …as the finest athletes from 9 states came to the track and field mecca…The New Balance Armory on 168th street for some competitive fun!!!! The Flying Circus brought all the poles and the 30″ CIRCUS MIRACLES” put on their ‘BEST FIBER-SHOW” EVER for the excited crowd of Track & Field “Nuts”!!!! CONGRATULATIONS to all athletes…coaches and parents for a sensational night together!!! …on-to-nationals!!!!

The stage was set and the peaking vaulters were ready-to-sail…. Pole Vault Chief…Tim Wilson kept the competition flowing all night with his brother and pit crew…as the girls field of 30 vaulters set the spark for the entire night…. Governor Livingston High School legend…Leah Saifi.. became the Greatest Girl Ever at Easterns with her NEW ALL TIME MEET RECORD 13′ .5″ vault on her third attempt for the gold. The personable senior , heading to Northeastern University next fall spanned her ankle on the winning vault and X-Rays provided the good news of no fracture!!! James Coughlin ,PA senior Madisyn Hawkins,,coming off a super PA State Meet on Saturday.. was also clean all night with first attempts.. took the silver at 12′ 6″ and moved up poles all night. Taking the Bronze medal was Northern Valley-Demarest,NJ senior Michelle “Rubeeee” Rubinetti ..with a hugh sail over a school record 12′ 6″ and ever so close bar at 13′ .5″ for the PENN UNIVERSITY bound gymnast/vaulter. Join the 12 Foot Club for her first time ever was Greenwich,CT junior…Lia Zavattaro with her 5th place 12′ 0″ make on her biggest UCS Spirit pole ever. Jessica Ippolito(FairLawn,NJ) still covering from a broken pole at State on Saturday placed 6th at 12′ 0″ for the Cutters ..as CIRCUS GIRLS placed 5 girls in the Top 6 for the best ever!!

The Boys were determined to measure up to the Girls success… Nick Marino of Hatboro-Horsham,PA.. Coming off his 16′ 0″ PA State Meet win… flew the coop with a 15′ 6″ win and big height at 16′ 0:” for the Philly Jumps Club senior , coached by Brian Monschein. Colin Duigan of Fordham Prep , coached by Brian Carney was the TOP JUNIOR with his 2nd place 15′ 6″ Personal best and 1 great shot at 16’0″!!! Seth Kricheff of Northern Valley-Old Tappan,NJ was close at 15′ 0″ again and placed 5th . Robby Saligman(Friends Academy,PA) was great at 14′ 6′ and Marc deLuca(Westhill,CT_ hit 14′ 0″ for Coach Perry. Isaac Heatley(Warwick Valley,NY) blasted 14′ 0″..Trevot Hazell(Vernon) set a new school record of 14′ 0″ for the Vikings..Greg Fuerte(Paramus) 13′ 6′ and Ryan Vimba(Ridgewood) 13′ 6″.

Late news… Congratuations to Sarah Haley of Binghamton University for winning the American East Pole Vault Championships this weekend at 12′ 5″ for Coach Thompson.. This former Dover,NY standout vaulter/hurdler continues to thrive. Also a shout out to Samantha Kaplan of RIT for 2nd place this weekend at State 11′ 1.75 ” !!!
