WARWICK VALLEY POLE VAULT …. ON-THE-RISE !!!!!

 

The storied history of fiberglass pole vaulting at Warwick Valley Central  is  filled   with magic…mystque  and folk lore tradition   and the new generation of “Flyer’s on Fiberglass” are  about to  write some new chapters on soaring.

   The Purple Wave Flyers of Coach Mike Potter’s Boys Track & Field team…and the  Girls Purple Wave  Team Flyers coached by Rich Furst have taken  wings for the up-coming Spring season at Track & Field  Central… Warwick Valley High School.

   Championship Pole Vaulting was started in the very early 1970…with George Odell setting records for the Purple and Gold Wildcats of Coach Frank Lacalimetta. The  progress to fiberglass vaulting poles soon shot the  school records into orbit the next 40 years…with Dave Holt holding the  school record for an  astonishing  33 years at 15′ 7″ (1978-2011).. Todd Uckermark(2014)  shot the record to 16′ 9″..the second highest  ever in New York State High School History. In the Girls  rich history…Meredith Mante won the  first NY State Pole Vault Title  with her 11′ 9″ sail for gold in 2003 for her  new school record….  Kayla Leahey followed with State Scoring Vaulting in 2010   and the current Purple Wave Record Holder  …Jenna Marrione won National Titles in 2008  for the Wildcats and zoomed 12′ 7.5″  her senior year at Warwick Valley.

   Now.. it’s  time  for the “NEW KIDS on FIBERGLASS” to Raise the Bar.   The New Wave in Boys Vaulting is led by Warwick Valley  senior…Derek DiBona…who sailed to a personal best this past weekend at the New Balance Indoor National Championships of 16′ 2″  to place 5th   and become ALL-AMERICAN. He leads an exciting group of “New-FLYERS-in-PURPLE”….and Erin Leahey…a State Scoring Vaulter/Sprinter will lead the LADY FLYERS this spring.  There is a surge going on  with our Middle School “RISING STARS on FIBERGLASS” to keep all this tradition moving fast-forward.  

   We invite all athletes… from all sport backgrounds…to  join us at The Warwick Conference Center,Warwick,New York…   for  the Flying Circus  “LEARN  -TO-POLE VAULT-DAY” on Saturday  March 28, 2015. Come join the RISING STARS and learn to  fly.   All 7-8-9-10th graders welcome.. Boys  3 Hour Session 10AM-1PM   Girls Session 2PM-5PM.. Cost $25 per athlete..
